About
Stevens P.U.D. provides water and wastewater services in Stevens County and portions of Spokane County, Washington. It is governed by a three-member board of commissioners elected by the voters of Stevens County and is managed by an appointed General Manager.
History:
Stevens P.U.D. was created by a vote of the residents of Stevens County in 1936. The primary need at that time was to provide electric service to the rural portions of the county.
In 1955, the electric system was sold to Washington Water Power (later renamed Avista).
In 1976, a majority of the Stevens County citizens voted in favor of the P.U.D. owning and operating sewer systems.
Beginning in the early 1980s, Stevens P.U.D. began constructing new water systems and rehabilitating existing sytems, and in the early 1990s, began construction of the Deer Lake Sewer System.
